Those long trips were why I switched career fields. I thought it was difficult when my kids were babies/toddlers, but now I think it would be even worse that they are in elementary school.

Honestly I was never wracked with guilt. I think you will enjoy the trip. Though anything over a week, and I was usually ready to be back home. It is just very difficult on the spouse left at home.

The other thread about vacation travel, got me thinking about an upcoming work trip. DS is 2.5 and I have only been away from him for one night, ever. I work in a field where international travel is necessary for advancement/professional development. I don't have to travel that often, maybe two trips a year and I haven't actually traveled since 2009. However, I've got an opportunity coming up in March that's exciting professionally and I'm planning to go for 10 days. DH will be home with DS and I'm planning to make sure we have enough in the budget so that he can get a sitter a once or twice if he needs a break (no family in the area to help out unfortunately).

I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that both DS and I will survive this. I have a feeling I'm going to be crying on the airplane as I leave...
