You should always use ground beef within 3 days; if it was previously frozen then within 1 day after it is thawed.

Goes bad really fast. The sell-by date is the date they make it. That should tell you something....I asked the butcher at the store and that is what he said.

If I wasn't planning to use it by the sell by date, I would just stick it in the freezer. Better safe than sorry.

The date usually says "sell by". How long is it good if still securely packaged up after the "sell by" date. It looked red and we used it - no one got sick. But I am curious how long hamburger meat is good after the "sell by" date.

There's usually a date on the package. If it's started turning gray-ish, it's suspect.

Smell it and feel it to see if it's slimy. I probably wouldnt use it if it smells off. But Even so, cooking thoroughly sold kill anything harmful.
