PP, I hope you are kidding. Because I don't really feel like telling my 9 and 6 year old in the car what Kaine is talking about on "War of the Roses" when his caller is discussing how he caught his "bleeping cheating bleep wife giving a b*** j*** to her boss."

I don't know about other parents, but I don't really feel like answering my kids questions about "what's a BJ" while I'm driving them to school.

If other parents think that is appropriate, I guess it's not my place to judge but it seems pretty fucked up to me.

I am shocked that anyone prohibits radio shows at all. Why not just teach children about shock jocks and let them listen to whatever Top 40 station they like?

What radio stations do you normally listen to in the car?

I can't imagine listening to anything but music when I drive and since I don't have satellite radio I just do all the pop/rock stations in the area - 107.3, 101.5, 101.9, 101.1, 102.7, 97.1, 94.7, 99.5, 92.5 - I just cycle through until I find something good playing.

I will also listen to 88.5 sometimes but mostly when I am alone in the car.

Thanks everyone. I will program 99.5 and 94.7 as options in my van. I found a station on Fios last night that is an option while we are at home.

We will be listening together, either in the car or at home, so I can intervene if the topics/lyrics go too far.

If only that were true!! There's plenty of it on 94.7, or at least there was when that What Makes You Beautiful song was all over the place. Agree that 94.7 is a better choice than 99.5 for some subject matter and lyrics, but we still scan it for songs.

For that age, try 94.7. More pop and fewer questionable lyrics than 99.5.

I agree with the Pandora suggestion too--there is a "tween" radio station, or you could do Spotify.

Well, I doubt OP's son is listening to the show M-F from 6-10AM, so we're good. Not to mention it's mostly a "talk" show so not much music anyway.

If you have an Ipod or such, you could put on Slacker or Pandora (my DH likes I Heart Radio) & just put in the band as a search to play similar music.

I need help identifing what radio station would be ok for my 8yr old son to listen to. He hear the band One Direction while with his cousins and would like to listen to "that kind of music". I know this seems strange but my husband, myself and our older daughter all listen to country music so I have no clue what station to put on in the car when it is his turn to pick.
