Ina's recipe is actually remarkably similar to the Hershey's recipe.

Ooh, I just thought of another one that I love (I'm the PP who posted the dump it cake upthread). This red wine chocolate cake from Smitten Kitchen is also fantastic. Everyone I've made it for has asked for the recipe. Not the prettiest cake in the world but delicious and a very different take on chocolate cake:

This was my Grandmother's favorite cake. She was all about efficiency, so no extra dishes appealed to her, but she had a tremendous sweet tooth so this fit the bill. Epicurious has a Double Chocolate Layer Cake that I've made several times and love. I even bought the 10" cake pans for the recipe.

I found this recipe in a book I've now lost that I stole from my father in the first place when I moved into my first place. I think it was by Paul Prudhomme. Anyrate, if I want to impress, I make this. There's a version of Mississippi Mud Cake with marshmallows and other nonsense, but as far as I'm concerned, this is the real deal. I like to slice it and serve it dusted with powder sugar and cocoa powder, with ice cream.:

I always make the Milleniyum Chocolate Torte by Pillsbury. It is quite heavy but rather delicious.

I love almost anything by Ina Garten, so I'm sure that previous recipe is good. I love this (terribly named) Chocolate Dump-It Cake by Amanda Hesser, formermly of the NYTimes. It's got a good amount of sale, which I love and the frosting is light and not overly sweet.

+1! Coincidentally, I made this cake for the first time this past weekend. Took it to a dinner party where it got rave reviews. Just make sure you use the best quality cocoa powder and chocolate. I made the cake the night before and put it in the fridge to help the flavors develop and the cake to firm up. Wish I had a piece leftover!

I like this recipe too but my husband, who is a big chocolate lover, detests this cake. I'm not as big a chocolate lover and I could eat this every day f my life. Weird.
