According to the "chat" DCPS had on Friday about the lottery, Deal and Wilson are the only two schools that are simply NOT accepting OOB. When pressed, the DCPS folks running the chat did not say that any other schools were off the table in terms of OOB. However, it's difficult to see how over-enrolled schools--Janney and other--will have any spots for true OOB students after all the preference categories are applied (IB w/ sibling, IB, sibling of current OOB student, proximity, siblings of new OOB students who got in the older grades, etc.). If you have other viable options it's probably fine to waste lottery spots on long shot schools, but if getting in a program is really important to you (because continuing in private is not an option or you don't feel like your chances at the charters are good) it's probably better to consider schools that might actually have a handful of OOB spots.

Is Janney closed again this year?

I know of a family that got Key PreK this year (OOB)

You might have a shot if you're talking about an older grade. What is your IB?

Whoa, talk about swinging for the fences! If you do not have IB or sibling preference at any of these schools, you are likely to be offered a spot only at J.O, with an outside shot at SWS.

don't follow -- why more of a shot at SWS than CH Montessori? same boundaries = none. only real difference -- Ch Montessori bigger and more potential sibs

Nobody knows yet how many applicants there will be for SWS, since it's the first time there is no neighborhood preference and the first time there is a PS3 offered.

Our son is in a private preschool that we love. We figured that if he doesn't get into the DCPS school we love, we'll keep him there. JO Wilson is our catastrophe school (like if one of us loses a job or a limb). But that's why they call it the lottery - someone's gotta win it right?

I know that, but they do offer it as a subject.

No but they do have Spanish classes for preschool. It's not immersion or every day.
What about Oyster? What other schools are dual language?
