85k--->130k working for the same company seems highly unlikely, sorry.

The cost of living here is very high. We used to live in the Philly suburbs and are contemplating moving back. I enjoy living here but the cost of living is crazy!

Agree with the pp who say it's twice as expensive here (I'm a Philly girl born and raised). The DC area is the best place around to raise a family IMO but you need to make $ unless it becomes one of the worst.

OP here: they have told him that his hour will increase to about 11 a day. I'm hoping they offer him at least 130000 - otherwise, hello ghetto

Cost of living adjustments rarely will make you break even. They really don't equalize housing costs which are the more extreme cost differentiators in areas. A bump will be more determined on how competitive his skill set is in the DC area.

Housing is about twice as expensive.
My 1930's brick colonial in AU park is worth 1.1 million. The same house would be $400K in the Philly main line.
(We've been looking at homes as we may be moving to Philly).

I wouldn't move for less than $140K.

I wouldn't expect the company to offer much of an increase, but the cost of housing is about double here.

Sorry-that should say $2000, not $1000. Same sentiment though!

If he were a federal employee, the cost of living adjustment would be about $1000. So hopefully his company will be more generous.

I wouldn't move for less than 100, and even that you will find tight, I imagine. Housing costs are very low in Philly compared to the DC area.

Maybe Up to 95k plus moving expenses?

hubby is being transferred in his engineering firm. he makes 85k gross in the philly area. what might his company give him to work in DC? all things being equal - just a straight up cost of living adjustment. we are still waiting to hear and I'm chomping at the bit
