OP here. I am not sure. I have not priced any airfares yet. Thanks so much to all with suggestions. I appreciate them and will look into them. We love to travel but it is kind of intimidating to do with two little ones!

We live in Florida (back and forth between Florida an DC every couple of years). March is usually warm even here in northeast Florida. Our community pool opens in March. I was at the beach over the weekend. The water was cool, but warm enough to swim in. March and early April are very busy tourist times. College spring break for mant Florida schools is the week of March 18th. My high school kids' spring break is the week of March 25th. You won't avoid spring break anytime fro the second two weeks of March through the end of April.

We rented a VRBO house in a place called Sunset Captiva that is strollerable to the lovely outdoor restaurants in Captiva and has a community pool, docks on the bay side, and a short wooden walkway through some trees to the beach. When I was looking I could have saved some money by doing a beachfront condo on Sanibel instead. Spring and fall are the shoulder season, much MUCH cheaper than winter, so unless you are leaving tomorrow check the rates before you pick your week.

We just had a nice time with our young kids visiting Marco Island and Naples, Florida and the weather was 80 in January so you are probably safe for beach, pool, botanical walks, boat nature tours, they have the Everglades and a small zoo and good dining. Discovered a place called Warm Mineral Springs in North Port, Florida, a sandy spring fed lake with lawns, palm trees, warm water and a pretty good little cafe. It was nice stop between Tampa/Sarasota and Marco.
Also rec. Captiva (or Sanibel) - low key, a lighthouse, shelling, bike rides to see wildlife at Ding Darling, plenty of restaurants and some shopping.
You can fly into RSW and it is a very short trip.

Family of four: two exhausted parents who just need to get away and have a somewhat relaxing time and warm weather (70s-80s would be perfect). Two toddlers (a 1 1/2 year old and 3 1/2 year old) who have never been on a long car trip or an airplane or been to the beach etc. I think I would be perfectly happy somewhere a two-three hour flight away (or 6-8 hours driving?) where we could rent a cabin or hotel suite (I do not require fancy) and sit on the beach, a lake etc. Places to go for walks and some kid friendly things to see and do would be fabulous.

We have a approx 7-9 days available and are looking for something low key, inexpensive ($2,500?) and kid friendly. We do not have to take the full 7-9 days (4 or 5 would be good too).

Does anyone have any recommendations of something? We are willing to fly but having never done so with either kid, are worried about anything that is an extended time in the air. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. And yes, I realize we are asking a lot for a little money!
