Oops you said Friday. Never mind Pearl Dive.

+1 for Masa 14 or El Centro.
Pearl Dive if it's not a weekend. (Weekends they get jammed and want to turn the tables over--you'll get glares for lingering.)

Bar Pilar, Masa 14 and El Centro DF are usually easy to get into for drinks early on a Friday night. Masa 14 and El Centro also have happy hour food and drink specials.

Indique maybe? A bit north of your target but it's quiet, usually easy to get a table and there are definitely snack type foods among the appetizers.

I forgot about the Saloon on U. That is a good one. Zaytinya would be too loud and crazy on a Friday night. I love the place but that's not the vibe I was looking for.

If you like beer, the Saloon on U Street is a nice place to catch up with a friend. It's not loud. Food is pretty basic bar food (bergers/fried/etc), but they have a decent beer selection.

I am meeting a friend for drinks/dinner next Friday. I am looking for a place where we can sit down and have some drinks and some snacks and talk. I am not looking for a fancy place. My friend works near Union Station and I am in Adams Morgan. Anyplace in between would be fine. (Penn Quarter, 14th Street, U Street, Conn Ave)

I was thinking that Birch and Barley might work but I though we might have trouble getting a table in the bar on a Friday, but maybe not if we met early enough like at 5:00? Loud is fine as long as we are likely to be able to sit down.
