whats the typical commission/split with the company?

It can really vary depending on how sucessful you are, how hot the market is, and whether you are placing contract attorneys, associates, partners or in-house. I know for a fact that the good ones can make a million dollars a year, but that is the exception and not the norm.

More realistic, particularly in the current market, is the low six figures if you hustle.

It is a tough business.
