I crate my dog 9 hours a day/4 days a week. However we have a dog walker that comes at noon and we also run the dog each morning 3-6 miles, depending on how far I want to go. So my dog is tired.

So, with that said, from my experience if your dog gets lots of exercise first and then you arrange for a walk mid way through, your dog will be just fine.

How old is the dog? Do you crate him? If he's over a year and you generally crate him while you're gone, he should be probably ok, if a bit desperate to go to a potty break by the time you get home!

People do it, but if your dog isn't used to it, it may end in disaster. Can you ask a neighborhood kid to take him for a quick walk?

I am a sahm so I am never gone more than 3-4 hours during the day. We want to visit my mom for the day and she is 2 hours away. We thought if we left at 9 and were home by 5 or 6, would he be ok? I know people work all day and their dogs are just fine. We have brought him with us before, but he gets carsick and my mom is in a nursing home, so it would be easier not to bring him. Thanks!
