I had no idea. I haven't followed this story at all, and didn't realize how prevalent this was. I'm glad you posted this, though, because it makes me reconsider my asshat comment, and my thoughts on his "cheating". On another subject, kind of, my husband laughed at me the other night when I was surprised to hear that World's Strongest Men doped as well. (I somehow became hooked on these shows about 10 years ago.) I guess it's everywhere. What sports do they NOT dope?

Let's not argue about Lance here. That piece by Nicole Cook is quite impressive. The situation for women in cycling is not very good right now and it's quite frustrating. Unfortunately I think that the structure of cycling - independent teams sponsored by private companies which can dump a team suddenly like Rabobank just did - also hurts prospects for women just the way it also encourages doping.

Yeah, sure, but who is that? Heck, for most of the wins they stripped from Armstrong, they haven't named the second place as the winner, right, because they can't be sure #2 wasn't doping.

I'll say it...no one cares about women athletes and the downfall of Lance is what makes the story great, no one wants to listen to a good toe shoes whine.

She won an Olympic gold and the World Championships in the same year - and it seems that she's retiring at age 29 basically because she refused to dope. One of her points is that the dopers are getting attention and money on the way up and down from book deals, etc., while those who ride clean have been forced out of jobs. The women have been treated much worse than the men. Why not focus on those who try to follow the rules, instead of liars like LA?
