MDIPA offered this service and I used it for my first. It was helpful for all those first time pregnancy questions.

Definitely didn't need it after that.

I had one call a few times right after birth. Im sure she may have been well intentioned but i really hands full juggling the baby, pediatrician visits, lactation consultants, that i really didnt need one more person with questionable ability to help with anything. I finally told her i was fine and to stop calling.

My call with bcbs came after birth. They asked if I was breastfeeding, if the baby had jaundice, if she was gaining weight.

Ignore them. They are trying to control THEIR (BCBS) expenses, particularly if you are looking at a voluntary C-Section. They pretend they are caseworkers but it is all about controlling the costs that you will eventually submit to them re: baby.

No with BCBS, it is not a recorded call and not related to any determination of your benefits. It is a useless waste of your time though. The information they provide is really too basic for anyone who is already getting prenatal care.

OP, don't talk to them or call them back. I had a serious medical issue that was not pregnancy-related, and they also called me, claiming to 'want to help coordinate my care'. I had enough doctors/nurses coordinating it, as is, thank you very much.

They do this for statistical reasons. They try and get a some sort of expectation for what to expect. If X% of their members are lacking prenatal care, overweight, not planning on breast feeding, etc. the insurance companies can use this for cost analysis and upcoming claims.
THEY can't get this information from the doctor. The phone call is voluntary. They spin it like they are trying to help you with prenatal care and offer a 1-800 call line.

And NO, the insurance companies don't get test results. They get the paperwork that the test was done, but not the results. That is why they ask.

I got one as well and was completely annoyed that she was asking questions that she should know the answers to. Is this your first baby? Are you married? Well I am on my husbands insurance and so is our 3 year old. She wanted to know if I wanted to join some program where she would call me regularly to check in to see if I had any questions. I politely said no and hung up.

Yes, this happened to me too. It's supposed to be some sort of nurse/case manager who will assist in helping to coordinate your care. I think the idea is they're trying to improve outcomes but I just didn't return her calls, since I feel like I can manage my own prenatal care just fine, thank you very much.

One of these people called me (gosh it was almost 2 years ago!) and I don't remember what she said but I do recall being a little perplexed/annoyed by it.

They are assholes. Don't feed them...they did this to me once to try to deny care.

I did too. I think they're just trying to promote good prenatal care, but I usually just avoided her calls. I felt like I was educated enough to know what to talk to my doctor about.

Why would a "case manager" from BCBS call me? She said she was an RN. She asked a bunch of nosey questions about my due date, my occupation, if I was on my feet all day, if I had the option of working at home, if I had any unfavorable test results, if I had any pets at home and so on. She did this under the guise of being helpful but I am suspicious because BCBS should know about my due date and test results. I gave her very little information. Anyone else get a call like this? Do I need to be concerned about this?
