Tights? For a 4 year old to play in?

Since she was around three my daughter has loved dresses and tights. She has several play dresses that she wears with tights. She's now 5.

Many of her friends also wear similar outfits.

That being said I'm surprised pps are able to do such a good job fixing the tights. I'm the first pp who has tried darning (both by hand and machine) and the holes always show.

I cannot mend tights, only leggings. You can see the fix if you look closely, they become "play clothes" which will continue to be put through the playground wringer so to speak.

I just got a sewing machine for the holidays and I mended 4 pairs last night. They are not good as new, but they are just fine for preschool where odds are she will put another hole in a pair of leggings this week.

I LOVE my new sewing machine.

Joys of a SAHM, most of us don't have time to "mend".

Huh? I work and it usually takes less than 5 minutes to mend a hole in a pair of leggings (if doing it by hand). I can imagine a sewing machine does it in a fraction of that time. Stop being an ass.

Hah, I am the PP with the new sewing machine. I am a full time WOHM with 2 kids. I wanted the sewing machine to teach my 8 year old how to sew for fun, I (a lawyer-what else in DC) learned to sew from my mom who was a full time WOHM engineer way back in the 60s and 70s who learned to sew from her mom who also worked.

I can also cook, but I have not operated a vacuum cleaner in years.

My DD usually wears leggings for this reason. Our nanny sometimes repairs ripped tights if she sees them. I've tried to do it myself and it never looks right.

Hanna Anderson stockings are really well made-they last the whole season but are expensive

Old navy has tights on sale. Stock up for $1.99 apiece. Or, switch to leggings with socks. DD, who destroys everything, cannot destroy leggings and she likes them better than tights. We usually do Carters, but childrens' place are also good.

Stop buying tights, have her wear jeans.

Thanks - will feel slightly less guilty tossing the second pair of Gap tights in a month...

I darn! them and then toss them. Wish I could find tights and leggings with reinforced knees.

I just toss them. The rips are usually at the knees and my darning skills aren't good enough for them not to show.

dd, 4, plays pretty hard and has ripped a few pairs of tights recently... do you darn these or toss them? the rips are large-ish (1 inch in diameter) and over the knee - so, i think they'll expand if i just let her continue wearing them.
