I have an Aldi ten minutes from my house so I checked out a couple times recently. I liked the (limited) produce. Everything I bought was fresh and super cheap. I didn't see anything organic but I don't always buy organic. I felt the produce quality was actually better than my crappy Giant and cheaper. I didn't buy any meat b/c I'm super picky about meat. Their tortilla chips, yogurt, and cheese were all good. I think I'll continue to go every once in awhile when I need to stretch our budget but I prefer shopping elsewhere because the store is just kind of depressing (bad lighting, food just stacked in boxes, etc.)

Aldi does not have organic cows milk yet. It has organic soy milk.

The aldi's I have been to around here are in not so good neighborhoods but that's not what bothers me. The food looks and taste gross.

Huh. Aldi's owns Trader Joe's.

Aldi's pays its employees very poorly.

I have also been happy with the "treaty" foods, such as baking supplies. They had nice kits for making cookies and such for christmas.

The bacon is gross- it's slimy. The juice taste good and is a significant savings. The milk is about $1.50 less a gallon.

The dried beans, canned fruits and vegetables and spaghetti sauce are all decent. The frozen entrees have been more miss than hit. The chips are about 1/2 the price and taste exactly like chips. The bread is bread- also about 1/2 price.

Organic Milk?

Organic foods this week at Aldi. It probably ends tomorrow. Simply Nature us the brand.

Also bananas, cantaloupe, grape tomatoes, cream cheese, Greek yogurt, whole wheat mini bagels, Fage yogurt, clementines, cauliflower, bagged spinach and lettuce mixes, cucumber, avocado....

I find them good for packaged foods, frozen foods, but not for fresh fruits or vegetables. Their fruits and vegetables always look atrocious to me.

This is why I don't go to them. The closest to me is in Langley Park. There is one in Germantown and in NE DC.

I love Aldi's. I find their processed foods to be better b/c they are mostly European brands and don't have high fructose corn syrup. With that said, I find that their veggies don't last as long and their meats have a very high salt content. You really have to watch that. I do buy their dairy and frozen foods though.

We are on a tight budget and I have started going to aldi's. I cook mostly from scratch so I can make meals stretch but even basic ingredients are really going up so I have been finding aldi's to be helpful in that aspect. Anyone care to comment on any of there brands? Anything a particularly good value? Anything I should stay away from? Tia
