I know you said you won't bake it yourself but why not invest in a bread machine? You add the ingredients and it does it all for you. You'll know what is going into it exactly and homemade bread beats store bought bread by a mile.

The whole grain breads do not have HFCS.

If you can find it, the German Dark Wheat 100% whole wheat bread is great and such a nice change from the standard WW bread.

Nature's Own has no HFCS. I buy the 100% whole wheat. It's available at Giant and Safeway.

I buy Nature's Promise (Giant's in-house "natural" brand) organic whole wheat bread. It is 100% whole wheat (so whole grain), and comparitively low in sugar, high in fiber. No high fructose corn syrup. Plus the organic loaf has smaller bread slices which helps keep better portion control. It is not cheap, though.

You need bread that is 100% whole wheat or whole grain, no white flour. Just read the labels. Try natures pride or natures promise (I forget which one is whole wheat).

Why do you think it's unhealthy?

My solution is just to look at the sugar content.

I am also wondering about Giant as well. We no longer live close to Mom's or Whole Foods.

I've heard that all the packaged whole grain breads that we've been buying at Safeway aren't much better than white bread. Can anyone recommend a healthy whole grain bread option? There's zero chance we can bake our own. I like the loaves of Harvest bread available at the Whole Foods bakery counter - it looks healthy but honestly don't know if that one has a lot of whole grains. Thanks!
