We'd love to go to Beaches at some point but it's always been prohibitively expensive whenever I've looked.

Double and triple love the ocean clubs. Low key, family friendly, reasonably priced. And you get your own apartment so you aren't forced to eat at a middling restaurant for breakfast.

Where/how do you buy groceries?

There's a store on the island and you can take a cab there and back. It's expensive (island prices) relatively but so worth it. Also the ocean clubs all have communal grills outside so you can grill anything you want with ease.

If you walk the beach at Grace Bay, Beaches appears to be hell on earth compared to the rest of it. Crowded and full of "amateur" vacationers. There is no need to do an All Inclusive on Provo. It is safe, most accomodations have kitchens and Beaches is ridiculosuly expensive when you compare it to the other resorts on the island. You are paying high dollar for a Holiday Inn room. I understand that it is child centered, but there are many child friendly places on the island, they just dont subject adult guests to Elmo and the gang.

If I remember correctly there is one decent grocery store on the island. Maybe a couple other small markets. We rented a car for a couple days, got some groceries and explored the island, then returned the car and spent the rest of the trip just hanging out on the beach.

Bohio Resort in Grand Turk is having a sale right now, it's a dive resort and they can arrange a babysitter.

If you want to save money, the Comfort Inn there is actually nice and we're kind of used to staying in super nice hotels for work.

Ocean Club and Ocean Club West are family friendly and nice - and more reasonable than a lot of the places there.

We just had a great week at Beaches in December. If you go, stay at the Italian Village. Definitely the nicest part of the resort, and all the rooms are family suites with a separate bedroom for the kids.
