Sad to hear about Java Green. I haven't been there since I used to work around the corner.

?

DC has tons of veg restaurants. http://www.vegdc.com/restaurants.php?type=veg

Granted several have tragically closed (Vegetate, Java Green, Vegetable Garden to name a few) but there are so many other delicious ones. I would recommend:

Everlasting life cafe - absolutely to die for vegan soul food
Sunflower - delicious veg chinese in VA
Great Sage - fantastic veg restaurant that is a bit of a hike out of town, but totally worth a drive
Sticky fingers - pretty great vegan bakery with some good sandwhiches and such (love the blt)
Yaun Fu - good vegan chinese on rockville pike
Sweet and natural - good soul food and bakery in mt rainer

And I know you said vegan restaurants, but the vegetarian woodlands restaurant is amazing and has lots of vegan options. Their brunch buffet is fantastic

I also love the founding farmers vegan menu

Sweet and Natural bakery and restaurant in Mt. Rainier, MD is all vegan:

It has seating, but isn't a "full service" restaurant.

While you're there, stop by Glut Food Co-op, which is pretty much next door and has lots of vegan groceries.

You can try Vapiano- everything is made to order. Found Farmers has a great vegetarian menu too.
