I am 32 weeks and got the flu two weeks ago despite having the flu shot during the first trimester. Once I tested positive, the attending at Shady Grove plus my OB recommended that I start taking Tamiflu immediately. Like the PP wrote, it is a Category C so it shouldn't be taken lightly. My doctors said it was better to take it then risk the possible complications.

You did the right thing. I ended up with H1N1 that led to pneumonia right after my first was born. I was stupid not to get a flu shot. It was the worst experience of my life. I should have taken tamiflu right away, but the doctor I saw was not the best and said that the risks to the baby from breastfeeding were too great to take tamiflu. This was wrong. I absolutely should have taken tamiflu to shorten the symptoms. Maybe I would have avoided the pneumonia.
Good luck and I hope you stay healthy. You made the right choice.

I am taking tamiflu, Robitussin DM, and Tylenol with codeine. I am 4 months pregnant and worry about what effects all of this medicine could have on my baby, so I understand why you are concern. I am still not 100% percent better but I hope I will be soon after all of this medicine and hope that it does not affect the baby but I got to trust my OB but reading all the comments on here from people who have been through it makes you feel a lot better

dobt be an ass! she is looking for anecdotes (which she received) of people who have taken tamiflu and they have been ok and given birth to a healthy baby. OB/GYNs and doctors DO NOT KNOW EVERYTHING. They make mistakes. Tamiflu is a relatively new drug so I can see the OP's concern.

Right, so you're saying you know better? Please.

Did I say that???? Read my post, idiot!

Well, you are quite the charmer, aren't you?

Tamiflu only shortens the symptoms by 24 to 36 hours. For most pregnant, otherwise healthy women, the only real reason to take it is if you can't keep your fever under 101 with Tylenol.

Relax. Yes, I agree with your OB that you should have gotten the flu shot sooner. Flu + pregnancy = not good at all. The risks are far, far far outweighed by the benefits.

As for Tamiflu, my friend took it, and she got better much faster and all is well with her and her baby.

Agree with others - you need to trust your doctor, not the advice of the science-illiterate anti-vaccination crowd.

My first pregnancy two years ago I got the flu shot and months later ended up with flu anyway at 32 or 34 weeks or so. It was three days of fever and absolute achy sickness. I did get tamiflu right away and that with Tylenol helped very much. My baby was fine and is now an extremely bright, verbal and completely normal almost 2 year old. No worries mama, you'll both be fine!

I took it when DD and DH had the flu in December. Tamiflu is Category C, and so is the flu shot, so I don't see it as more dangerous than the shot. Getting the flu is much more dangerous than taking Tamiflu, IMO.

The CDC recommends tamiflu for pregnant women.

I am up in Boston where talk of the flu has been all over the news. According the the TV news broadcast last night (I know, not exactly a scientific source) Tamiflu is safe for pregnant women. Given that you have almost certainly been exposed, I would take it. Your flu shot does not have time to give you immunity at this point and it will be better to lessen the impact of the flu than risk getting really sick while pregnant.

I'm 21 weeks along with my second baby and have been exposed to the flu this week from my 2-year-old, my mom and husband (both of whom caught it from my 2-year-old). I received the flu shot Wednesday this week. They were not confirmed of the flu until Friday and Saturday. I called my OB to tell them I am at risk of getting it because I have been around all three of them in my house for an entire week. The doctor immediately prescribed tamiflu yesterday and pretty much yelled at me for not getting the flu shot earlier in the flu season. I took it yesterday but I woke up this morning feeling so nervous that I had taken it due to the unknown risks to the baby. We had a 20 week ultrasound last week and the baby looks so healthy and normal...I just wouldn't want to do anything that could cause a risk to her at this point.

Has anyone taken tamiflu during pregnancy? The doctor says the risks of taking it outweigh the risks of me getting the flu and ending up in the hospital with pneumonia.

Thanks in advance.
