I almost always cook. I find it easier than dragging a tired child out, and my husband works late. But we rarely go out. I may domleftovers or takeout, but usually save take out for midweek when I get stuck at work late.

Growing up it was McDonald's night (starting to see why I was a chunky kid)

Almost always cook in. Usually pizza or something easy after sports practice. Then a movie with wine for the grown ups.

Me too.

I recently learned that fried fish is actually a Jewish tradition. I was watching the British show "Supersizers to Go" where they were re-creating Victorian era food. Recent European Jewish immigrants escaping pogroms introduced the practice:

The other day it occurred to me that I don't think I've ever eaten a meal at home on a Friday night. I can't even remember if my mom cooked on Fridays because I was either out or at a friend's house on Friday nights, but as an adult, that's our "going out" night, and I can't recall ever cooking on a Friday night. It now seems weird to me to see meal plans that include Friday- Friday's free!
