Well, I'm a foreigner although I have been living here for over a decade. I also couldn't care less about football. I find it mind-numbingly boring (how many minutes of actual playtime is there in a game?) and think that it's only a scheme to sell air time to advertisers. I am not anti-sports, I love basketball (particularly college hoops), hockey (I am from Scandinavia, so that's probably just my bias) and of course, soccer. But football - hell no. Same for baseball - sorry! I do feel like an outsider though when everyone is discussing RGIII or some other dude I have never heard of around the water cooler

It's funny you would post this now. I just finished watching the 2001 Disney movie "Remember the Titans" with my son (boy scout merit badge requirement) and just before the kid broke his neck, I turned to my son and said "I am soooo glad you don't play football". What a brutal sport. And my husband tells me the pros just suffer immensely in later years due to all the head injuries they suffered while playing. Bores the tears out of me.

Ha ha ha. You do know what Ivy League means, right?

Yeah. A popular cheer at a Harvard vs MIT game in my day was that when MIT is losing, the crowds would shout back that they have higher SATs. Yay! MIT isn't Ivy League but their prowess in football fits right in.

I mean, how much research into brain injuries and football do you need before you realize this is a completely dangerous and foolish sport? Maybe I'm extra annoyed because my third grade boy is being ostracized by his classmates for not liking football, and I'm half tempted to sit him in front of the playoff games just to avoid that. Anyway, flame away, I realize it's un-American to question the almighty football, but I just don't understand why this is such an obsession.

I could careless about the DC team however this story is making National News. This QB was a standout rookie this year and the injury may be career ending. This guy was one of the good players vs the idiots we've been watching in Stubenville. That's why it's on the news. The coach may have not only have blown it for the team next year but by having this man play AND not prepping the almost as equally or maybe equally talented back up he may have caused this additional damage and possible ended a career or limited it significantly.
I didn't watch but the last part of that game and when I saw his leg twist I cringed and let out a gasp. It was and to see.

It's : I COULDN'T care less.

Yeah, thanks. Skipped the "NOT". Had a long day making sure all the "I"s and"t"s got crossed at a job I get paid for and typing on a teeny iPhone screen isn't easy.

Answer to another poster about how foreigners feel about American football. I grew up in a soccer mad country so the only football I care about doesn't involve people wearing helmets. To this day I have no idea what the hell is going on at a football game no matter how many times it's been explained to me. Like are they suppose to carry the ball to their side or the opponents. Why do they spend most of the time just hanging out with the clock stopped? Like I said, could NOT care less about American football.

I hate football, too. When I was a child, my father's only day off of work was spent on the chair in front of football. (When he'd fall asleep, somehow he could awake at the sound of me changing the channel... but not the sound of my voice asking him to pay attention to me.)
Now as an adult, I see how silly the game is.

What do non-Americans think of the sport?

Agree. I hate it too, Esp. all the hype and mindless chatter that goes with it. Can't wait for the season to be over.
