FCPS staff support implementing the recommendations of the Spring 2012 advanced academic program (AAP) Task Force:
To establish at least one elementary AAP center in each pyramid, and an AAP center in every FCPS middle school;
Create and align a K-12 continuum of advanced academic services in all pyramids in order to provide equity of access to all students;
To provide immediate relief to overcrowding in the AAP Centers at Louise Archer, Hunters Woods and Haycock Elementary Schools, staff recommendation is to open new Level IV Advanced Academic Centers at Lemon Road, Westbriar, and Navy elementary schools fall 2013;
Additional elementary and middle school AAP centers should be opened over time to implement the recommendations of the AAP Task Force.
Recommendations:
That the School Board authorize the establishment of new advanced academic program (AAP) centers in fall 2013 at Lemon Road, Westbriar, and Navy Elementary Schools, for the purpose of relieving severe overcrowding at Haycock, Louise Archer, and Hunters Woods Elementary Schools; and further move that the new center placements begin at grade 3 and the rising 4th, 5th and 6th graders will stay at their current AAP centers (“grandfathered”).
That the School Board continue to explore, via thorough analysis and discussion with stakeholders, the expansion of AAP elementary and middle school centers with a goal of potential openings in fall 2013 at the following schools: Silverbrook Elementary, Cooper Middle, Herndon Middle, Thoreau Middle, and South County Middle.
