Um, less money. Seriously, the FG is a very big place. It will depend where you work. We've been spending incalcuable sums on war and homeland security for over a decade. It is winding down.
I'm in cancer research but I expect we'll take a hit too. But I'm hoping that is through not filling positions rather than RIF.

Rumor has it that my former agency RIFed some people with seniority by getting rid of their specific jobs. But this was years ago.

Yes. If they fail to follow the process you can usually file an administrative action. Lots of those get filed because even when the agency does follow the process, it's so complicated that they can screw it up unintentionally ... or the employees think they did ....

Does anyone know how this really works at federal agencies? Is seniority really adhered to, or do the "fair haired favorites" come first?
