Bristle blocks!! Yes. And the tent/ tunnel thing. Also wooden blocks have been a huge hit for years at my house, kids ages 6,4 and 2. They play with their blocks almost every day. Our play kitchen gets a ton of use also but it is sort of large.

I second bristle blocks. My 2 year, 10 month old has played with his magnatiles every day, multiple times a day since Christmas.

This, and agree with the age. Other than those, my son loves Imaginext toys, like. The Batcave. Again, though, not really until three. Befor that he played with Little People a lot.

toy food/cooking things..could be just pots and utensils with space issues

trains

blocks

collapsible tunnel or fort

2 is too young for real legos and duplos were not too exciting to my kids.

My son got wedgits for Christmas when he was 2 1/2 - he is now 6 1/2.

This toy is used frequently by any child who comes into the house - including my 10 YO nephew.

Also magnatiles - expensive but played with frequently.

Duplos. My older one was playing with them at that age, and although his preference now (at 7) is strongly for Legos, he happily plays with his 3 yo sister's duplos still.

small kitchen - my kids played with this for 2+ years long time (boys and girl)

my son was 2.5 when he started playing with Imaginext - we have the Castle and this is another toy that was played with for a while

the collapsable tent / tunnel - they put all of their blankets in there and toys and have a lot of fun

09:31 again - Legos are great (start with the generic blue bucket we supplemented with Ebay and a few sets) but 2 is a little young.

We also have no playroom and try to stay minimilist.

Open ended is best.

Blocks that will grow with him.
Toy cars
Bilibo
Toy kitchen (Ikea has a small inexpensive one)
Tunnel (they collapse and can be stored)

He's a little young, but marble runs are a lot of fun as well.

You can also get outdoor toys (balls, trike or balance bike, etc), books, puzzles, and bath toys. Though we tend to do a lot of library books, and just buy a few favorites.

Legos, if he likes to build. He'll be using them for the next 10 yrs.

We have a realitively small house (no basement or "playroom") and tend to ascribe to simplicity parenting, hence we don't have tons of toys for our DS. He got a train table for Christmas, which he loves. His birthday is coming up and I would love some ideas about what we could get him that he would really play with and appreciate. Thanks so much!
