We are planning a 2 story addition off the back of out house which includes adding a master bath and reconfiguring the existing 2nd level. We only have $250,000 to spend so it looks like brick is probably not the way to go.
Anonymous wrote:We did it, but it helped that the original brick wa already painted, so all we had to worry about was matching the texture, not the color. It added significantly to the cost (that, plus we added a full-on masonry fireplace). We love it and think it helped the addition feel seamless.
We are actually selling the house in the Spring to move to a much larger new construction house. As the move gets closer, I honestly think we will really miss the old house. We did the addition right with all high quality stuff and we are not sure the new house will ever compare favorably to the old one (except for the space).
It really comes down to what you care about and the vibe of the house. I'm quite sure no one is going to pay for what we put into our addition, although overall our house will show really, really well. People comment on how great our house is all the time. Sniff.
