Bull Run Festival of Lights if it is still open. See the cheesey lights and then go to the carnival. Laser tag -- I just went for the first time and had a blast. Indoor trampoline park -- a hoot, plus if he is the kind of boy that can pull it off he can invite her to bring a younger sibling.

Driving range or mini golf depending on the weather.

All great ideas. But make it something that is authentic to your DS -- no one wants to start a relationship on a false note. If DS is totally into dinosaurs, then a trip to the Natural History museum is a great idea. If he isn't a museum kid, then it's just posing and he'll be as bored as she is.

There must be some place/activity that DS loves and would love to share with someone he cares about. His enthusiasm will be infectious.

I don't know where you are or whether there is something similar in DC. But in Baltimore at the Charles Theater, there is a great program called Cinema Sundays. They have a limited run movie (art house, foreign, documentary, etc.) and guest speaker who discusses the film with the audience. They can drink coffee or tea beforehand. I think there are bagels, too. Sunday mornings. When I lived there, I never missed it.

Bowling, hibatchi restaurant, paint your own pottery, cooking class, volunteering together, Kennedy center Friday concerts, nature center walk, shoot pool,

I went on one date in high school that was odd, but actually an enormous amount of fun. We met up on a Saturday morning and started with $10 each and went to a dozen or so yard sales looking for the coolest things we could get for those $10.

Skating, the Zoo, dessert in Georgetown, high school sports game.

Agree it can be daunting. Where are you? Ideally, walking, talking, and sitting is best. This time of year the weather poses limits. No one wants to wander a mall, even though it fits the walking and weather factors. Are you near DC? There are museums that have restaurants for lunch. Something like the spy museum or wax? You could also check on line for "things to do in..." And see if anything is nearby. I'd suggest a Renaissance Fest or something at a different time of year, but you get the general idea. Or are you looking for a more "formal" date?

I was never a big fan of movies, as you can not talk during the movie. Assuming there are mutual interests, a hike (it is cold though), or a museum can be good. Hiking at great falls was my favorite at the time....Could talk freely, small areas of privacy.

DS is 17 and wants to take girlfriend out for a date. Not looking for the usual go out to eat or movie ideas. Also not looking for comments about whether a teenager should have a girlfriend.
