Sorry that this is happening. Yes, I think it's wise to wait until the bleeding stops and a follow-up visit confirms your cervix has closed.

Gross question but I'm in the middle of a missed miscarriage. For those who didn't wait before the first cycle, you still have to wait until the bleeding stops, right?

What an interesting thread. I was told to wait a cycle or two and did not follow doctor's orders and the result just walked up the stairs to go to bed.

You should not wait and in fact should probably see an OB to address you cycle length which far outside the normal range. If I were you I would definitely not wait half a year to try again! Midwives are great but they are not medical doctors trained in gynecology or endocrine/fertility

8:48 - you should try charting your waking temperature. I have a Basal Thermometer and check my temp immediately upon waking. I record it using the Fertility Friend app. This is the first month I'm doing it (after 5 months of unsuccessful trying post m/c and with shorter cycles than ever before) and it's amazing to see how the temps move throughout the month. I wish I'd started this charting earlier. If you start, you might be able to see when you're ovulating based on your body's signs instead of guessing and can time your intercourse better. If you're getting a period, chance are you are ovulating, you just might have your intercourse timing off. Your period will always be ~14 days after you ovulate, so you can count back from there.

Don't bother waiting.
I wish we hadn't, we went off and enjoyed our summer and now have such irregularmcyclesmi cannot even tell if I'm ovulating. Been 3 cycles of "waiting", and a few months of unsuccessfully trying. Oh and a work trip to Africa where I got shots and antimalarials so had to stay safe 2-3 months of no trying.
Wish we had tried right away!! No medical reason not too, waiting to time your cycles might be fun at age 25 but not at age 35!

My OB also said to wait one cycle. We did not, got pregnant, had an uneventful pregnancy and a healthy DC. OB never said anything about not waiting, so do what you feel is right for you.

Sorry for your loss.
I had an August d & c (so we knew everything was cleared out) and my OB said to wait one full cycle after and then start trying. We are on cycle #5 and still trying; some people get lucky and conceive again immediately and others, like me, seem to take longer. Not sure why you would stop your prenatal. You need the iron and B6 vitamins to help build a healthy lining again. Maybe get a second opinion? Good luck.

Don't stop prenatal vitamins. That's crazy.

thank you so much for all of your replies. are there studies that say you don't have to wait, or is this what your doc or midwife said? I'm just wondering where the information comes from about not having to wait, I've seen a lot of anecdotal evidence on message boards but I guess I'm looking for something more concrete since my doctor made a big deal about waiting, using contraception and even stopping the prenatal vitamins.'m scared to wait and scared to not wait...thanks so much again, and happy holidays

The only reason not to try before your period is that if you aren't charting/temping, it's harder to date the pregnancy. If the lining is an issue, you won't get pregnant. If you feel comfortable trying right away, then go for it.
I'm sorry for your loss.

I was told that the only reason to wait a cycle is for pregnancy dating purposes if you should happen to conceive. There is no evidence of a greater chance of another miscarriage if you try right away vs. waiting.

How long does one have to wait after a miscarriage to try again? my np said stop taking folic acid and wait until after first period because of uterine lining. (i miscarried naturally at 9 weeks) then i find there are all these people who tried befor first period? what have you all heard?
thanks!
