This was a very disturbing incident. During a week when the some children were already dealing with the Newtown issues (which I believe the school dealt with perfectly, including having additional personnel and surveys taken of all parents on Monday morning so teachers would be aware of which children knew and which the parents's wanted to speak to the ever present school psychologist), they found themselves and the school that they are told to trust being picketed. This was very unstabling for the school and the children. Moreover, the parents' comparison of thier actions to Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks makes some families concerned about the mental stability of these parents, adults who come into the building with our children each day. I have no idea what actually occurred, although i've never known the administration to ignore problems, but this seems like a terribly destructive and counterproductive way to deal with the issue, especially as it seems they had already found a new school that they thought would be a better fit for their family. I was very supportive of the email they had sent to the community just the day before to bring the issue to people's view, but when they pointlessly exposed our children, they crossed a huge line in my opinion.

MV has already been announced a partner of DCI - and I assure you that what this family experienced is far different than our experience. We had an issue that at the onset appeared to be bullying. We brought it up, met with the teachers and administration immediately, found out additional information that actually changed our perspective. Based on that, we came to a mutual decision on how to move forward and the teachers were vigilant in checking in and reporting updates and progress regarding the plan we had set out. We are 100% satisfied. This is a free country and I hope that a BI program would tolerate families who exercise their rights to freedom of speech than ostracize a whole school without knowing the whole story.

Anyone know more?

So they went in front of the school with protest signs? Really, what favors are they doing their child? OBVIOUSLY I have no idea what did or did not happen, but this seems like a horrible way to actually solve a bullying problem. How embarrassing for their kid.

Oh, shut up! This is just stupid. No need for further comment!

What an intelligent, well-reasoned reply. Are you a MV parent? It seems like there is a lot of growing to be done there. Parents at the other DCI schools will not tolerate bullys (or their DCUM-posting parents). We want this to be a nice school, and the knuckleheads will be thrown out. If a school can't handle their students, would you want them feeding into the DCI?

I seriously doubt that you will decide which schools will participate in DCI?

Mundo Verde does not have a bullying problem.

MV parent here. There was a family with signs outside of MV this morning, protesting that their child hasn't been "heard" - their words. The family and the school administration have been in communication with MV parents via email listserv today. It sounds like a complex situation with two decidedly different versions of what has or hasn't transpired and because of privacy issues, not a great deal of info can or will be shared, at least for now. I take bullying as seriously as any involved parent and have not seen a lot of it at MV. Parents and kids, for the most part, are friendly and positive at the school. We felt lucky to get in and are still very happy to be there. That being said, if bullying did occur, it will need to be taken very seriously and I think parents at the school will work with the administration to see that there's an approprite response.

It's not gossip if people are outside protesting.....something happened.

I read it too. Bullying is an issue many schools don't know how to handle.

Be very careful with this sort of gossip. It may be a juicy rumor on DCUM, but you're asking to basically "out" an elementary school student. Furthermore, it's undoubtedly more complex than whatever would be talked about here.

Read on another site about people protesting in front of Mundo Verde because of a bullying issue. Kid was bullied, school refused to move him/her to another class, and refused to control the bully.
