If their company is so small, why do they need a 2nd round of interviews? Couldn't they ask all of the questions during the first interview? Sounds like a waste of time.

Yes, and in several places it's never allowed, and that might not be right for OP. People on this board are notoriously conservative in this regard. As a pp said, ask in round about ways, not "how soon can I start telecommuting?" Best of luck.

Unless it's a deal breaker and you wouldn't take the job if it's not allowed, I wouldn't bring it up. In most places it has to be earned or you demonstrate competency. Usually it's not a right unless they rotate desks or something.

I've recently been through the interview process for a job (and was hired!). I had a full day of interviews and posed that type of question when I interviewed with the HR person. I posed the question as "what are the norms of the office" as in, what time to people come in, can you work from home, etc. I also wanted to ask the telecommute question, but didn't want to show my cards too soon.

I am interviewing to work at a newish place - they only have 3 employees who started a couple of months ago and anticipate hiring one or two more people. The work would be really interesting but involves a great deal of writing and research, which I could obviously do from home. During the first round of interviews I think things went well and I know they want to move quickly. There is supposed to be a second interview shortly. I want to be able to telecommute one day per week. When would you bring this up? At the second interview or if I am made an offer? Also how would you broach this subject?
