Thanks, I saw this one but wasn't sure how it would taste. I may give it a try.

I used this one also. I do not like almond flavor so I substitued vanilla.

I always use royal icing (powdered sugar, egg white, vanilla, and cream of tarter) and I researched the egg white thing last year before giving the cookies to little kids. Turns out the bacteria can't live in the dried icing, so it is safe. I always do use the highest quality eggs I can find, though.

How do most people feel about egg whites these days? I'm not sure I'll have time to get meringue powder tomorrow.[/quote]

The allrecipes one by PP doesn't mention eggs or meringue powder but it still says it dries hard.
