23:40 some posters here clearly feel threatened by the potential for BASIS succeeding, their response to BASIS has been that of one like a cornered snarling animal. That's the fear, and it's tangible. If you are pro-charter, you are in favor of having a variety of school choices to fit your needs. Being pro-charter and anti-BASIS makes little sense in that aspect, as it is an excellent choice for some, and it meets a need not met by many other schools.
23:45 BASIS is a new DC charter school in downtown DC by the National Archives. They are based in Arizona, where they have been established since the 1990s, with several schools there and more on the way. They provide a model which offers a hybrid of classical education (Latin, et cetera), European and American models, with lots of acceleration in math and science and a strong college preparatory focus.
