Yes, but given the number of applicants, the odds are that he/she won't.

What I mean is, it's not all about the scores, but a low score is a deal breaker.

The tests are not everything but 88% is a high score.

Yeah, but now you have to stand over your kid and cajole/beg/threaten about the college essay - not sure which is worse! In other respects, applying to Sidwell is a lot like applying to college, though.

My child had 88% -tile scores and got accepted! That test is not everything, people!

I just did a rough count of my child's classmates at Sidwell. Roughly 1/3 are younger siblings, roughly 1/3 have what some people here might call a hook (legacy, teacher's kid, VIP parents, URM, etc), and roughly 1/3 have no apparent hook. The odds are still long, but don't believe people who tell you that there's no room for any child who lacks one of these hooks.

I do not know wppsi scores for any child except my own, but I suspect 97% is plenty good enough to put you in the running. Good luck!

Apply, but don't let yourself or DC fall in love with the place because, like with selective colleges, a lot of it is down to luck. There will be many applicants with good test scores, so if you can find a way to stand out (hook, great essay) that will help. Like the analogy with applying to HYP, it's hard to stand out, but if you don't apply, you'll never know.

Correct -- it's just not about the scores OP. Do you have any ties to Sidwell? Does the school your child attends now have any ties there? Do you know someone on the Board who can write a letter or do you have any other influence points? Are you an URM? Legacy?

It's sort of like applying to Harvard-Yale-Princeton with 2400 SATs. Kids with these scores get accepted, and others get rejected, all the time. It helps a lot for both private K and college if you have a hook, although the hooks can be different (legacy status is good in both places, no athletic recruits for Sidwell K but in private schools the ability to donate $10-20K is worth more than it is at HYP).

Sure. But so can a 92 and a 99 can also get rejected. It isn't all about the scores only.
