I was just at Barnard for a tour yesterday and they offer "super" which is what the counselor said in the evenings.

Yes, DCPS' afterschool care (now $10 for the full-tuition paying student) includes a light supper rather than a snack as in years past. My son hates it, too much brown bread and whole wheat tortillas. I've tried it and find it okay. It's definitely a stretch for many kids (hate to say it but just too nutritious, at least in the grains portion of it, the meat and cheese meanwhile has no taste, and they dare not add mayo) and at reasonably well fed schools really something of a waste. But I'm also glad they have it and have at times felt less guilty running a bit late with dinner.

I think that actually sounds great - my daughter is often ravenous at 5:30 when I pick her up, having eaten a pretty insubstantial snack around 4:00, and would love if her "snack" was a little more hearty and could hold her over until family dinner-time. I was wondering if this was what was meant by "dinner".

In my DCPS, they call it a light supper. Usually it consists of a sandwich and some fruit or vegetable. They serve it shortly after school ends.

OP here! Really, I'm more curious than anything! I've heard it mentioned here and there that some programs offer dinner. Ours currently does not. I don't think we'd ever take advantage of it, but I'm curious about the logistics and wanted to hear from some parents who participate. Is it just served really early? It seems like it would be disruptive to pick up your child in the middle of dinner.

They offer snack. The school will feed your child breakfast and lunch, and for extended day at least one snack.
