HS kid eats at 11:45. That's the late lunch period. Works well for him.

Notes the staggered times for lunch, but how long are lunch periods? Our schools has kindergarten era eating in 20 min. Is that appropriate or driven by overcrowding?

11:30. Every class eats in their classrooms together. So much more leisurely and happy than the cafeteria mob scene.

Mine eats lunch at 10:30 or 11:15 depending on the schedule. This semester it's 10:30. He snacks all day though so it seems to work.

School 9:15 to 3:30

1st graders - lunch @1pm, snack @ 10:30,
Last year in K lunch @ 11:20, snack @ 2 pm
Snacks are mandatory, teachers keep some snacks as a back up for those kids who forgot to bring their own

In 3rd grade, DD ate at 1:30. Despite the general anti snack school policy, she allowed them to eat while they worked mid morning..

Last year my kindergartner ate at 1:00 (for many kids it was well after, as they had to wait in line for up to 25 minutes). School began at 8:30. It was much much much too late for those little kids to eat. I was horrified, especially when taken together with the fact that the lunch room didn't have enough room for the kids to sit and eat, and didn't have enough capacity to get the kids through the line for food by the time the lunch period ended.
One of the unspoken problems with extremely overcrowded MCPS schools.
We moved over the summer and my child now eats lunch at 11:45.

Second grader: 1:15pm lunchtime, right after recess. His class gets to eat a (home-provided) snack at 11:00am.

11 am, 3 yo. Home at 3:15, so it's a good schedule for us.

Ours is the opposite situation- our 3rd grader eats early, at 10:35. We only leave the house at 8:30 am, he' s just had breakfast. It's a problem in the afternoon, when the kids' stomach starts grumbling and teachers don't have time to offer them a snack (which could be provided by parents) because it takes time away from teaching.

Plus he's not always hungry 2 hrs. after bkfast!

Our school can't do much about it because the school is overcrowded and they have to feed close to 800 kids, K-5th.

How do you suggest elementary schools with 700 students structure lunch more effectively?

Our high school has one lunch period and it starts at 10:53. He eats breakfast at about 6:45 - 7:00.
