I work in a medical office - though not in admin.

I'd look into medical billing/coding certificate programs. While it seems that all they do it schedule, there is a lot of billing/insurance coding that is going on behind the scenes. I'd also take a medical terminology course because you need to have a basic knowledge going in.

Maybe you could consider a job as a medical administrative assistant? There are some reputed institutes offer online training programs that you could look into. You can study online and once you’re done, start work immediately. Studying online gives you an added advantage of being able to do whatever it is you’re doing AND study at the same time. It’s convenient and cheaper.

OP here - I'd be happy with this starting out, but what I need to know is where these entry-level jobs are. I'm willing to start at the bottom to gain experience, but it seems everyone wants employees who already have experience.

I started as a temp when I graduated college. Then was hired full time. Just left in August to go back to school in the medical field. One of the problems now is that so many offices use electronic medical records. I know when my boss was hiring my replacement, they would only look at candidates who had experience with them. It can be a PITA to train someone on those systems.

I have the same question. I currently work as an Accounting Clerk, but I would like to get into the medical field.

I'm looking into medical training programs at NoVa. In addition, FCPS Adult Education offers some certification courses in the medical administrative field.

After many years as a SAHM, I am hoping to get back to a F/T job. I'm looking for administrative assistant-type positions, and see quite a few jobs in medical offices; however, they typically want at least one year of experience in a doctor's office and often, up to three years. Rarely do I see any entry-level medical office jobs. If you work in a medical office, how did you get started? Did you get a job because you knew someone there?
