And I think the idea that gold and diamonds look bad together is just silly. Just because the trend is white gold (which I think has gone overboard) does not mean that yellow gold looks bad with anything. Sheesh. Gold and platinum jewelry do not become "dated."

Maybe on you, but perhaps you are pinkish-white in which case, yeah, you look better in things that have cool undertones. I actually prefer yellow gold and think it looks fantastic with diamonds. I have a warm skintone, and that is the combo that looks best on me.

Nope, I am a redhead and wear warm fall colors - but I think diamonds in yellow gold look terrible (and dated) and my diamond earrings and rings are set in white gold or platinum.

Whatever you get, make sure it is not blood diamonds. *Steps off soapbox*

Her diamonds are "I" color, which is pretty yellow, so gold might look nice.

I find your complaint bizarre, honestly. But it's like that old Elizabeth Taylor quote-large diamonds only look tacky on other people. They get a lot smaller when you put them on, yourself.

I wear 2 ct per ear round studs and agree that they get so dirty. The properties of the diamonds causes them to pick up oils really easily and this dulls them greatly. You could go down in color or clarity or try a yellow gold setting. If they are cathedral settings, those always look tacky to me because they sit too high. Go for basket settings and see if you like that.

I've got ones slightly larger (but I'm quite large, so...) besel set studs and I wear them every day. As one PP mentioned, they'll never be as clean and sparkly as they are right now. I'm a fairly casual person and nothing short of a boring dresser and I felt seriously ostentatious when I got them. (
I know they're not big, but they felt blingy to me) After a week of wear, they no longer felt like they were jumping off my ears. I love them.

I really wouldn't return them for lesser quality. You'll likely kick yourself later.

OP here and thanks for the quick responses. I got them off of bluenile using a google offer. Yes, they are .9 total. I didn't think that was supposed to be big, but they are quite noticeable on my ears. Combined with the sparkle, it's just too much for me to feel comfortable wearing as everyday earrings. When I tried 1ct fake earrings, they didn't look too big at all. The first pp mentioned the sparkle would die down as they got dirty and I was hoping myself that might be the case. Otherwise, I was wondering if I should get a J color instead. Like I mentioned, they are lovely earrings, and they are perfect for an evening out, but too much for a casual afternoon.

.9 total carat (so .45 carat each) on my years would look huge since i have small ears. i would keep them though and wear them on special occasions. i have a pair that are about .66 total carat and they seem fine for every day.

.9 total weight or each? .9 total weight is not very big. How much were they? I agree with the pp to keep. Why would you want less desirable diamonds than what you can afford. If you want less bling, maybe look at a princess or emerald cut.

How much were they? If they were a good deal I wouldn't return them.

Ok, this is going to sound gross, but it's hard to keep earrings that you wear a lot 100% clean, so after awhile once they get dirty they won't be quite as sparkly. So you can rest assured that won't be a problem.

I recently bought myself a pair of diamond stud earrings as a gift to myself for a promotion at work. The earrings are beautiful, but I just don't think I'll be comfortable wearing these on an everyday basis. Don't laugh, but the studs look too big (maybe I have small lobes), clear and sparkly for me. I was hoping for something more subtle and a warmer/whiter color. I want something I can wear to work as well as a Saturday afternoon in jeans and a t-shirt.

I still have a few weeks to return the current earrings. For those of you who know your jewelry, what should I change to find a pair of earrings that are what I'm looking for?

Here are the current specs - which I didn't think were too extravagant
.9 ctw, very good cut, I color, VS2 clarity, bezel setting

Before buying the earrings, I tried on a few pairs of cz earrings in the same setting and size and liked them, so I don't think that's the issue.
