There is something seriously wrong is PreK kids are trending that old and entering at age 5!

My son is at one of these schools and the youngest boys in his class has a March birthday. Maybe it's different in other classes, but I highly doubt it's that different.

Fwiw, I wish more summer birthday boys were accepted. Suddenly the spring boys seem young and it is just a slippery slope....

Late summer boys in my kids' grades at Sidwell as well, but they may not have started at pk.

We have a late summer boy at Beauvoir and there are others.

There are some "on time" late-summer boys in my kids' grade at Sidwell, and they seem to be doing fine. There are also some "year late" late-summer boys, who also seem to do fine. The school admits both. I agree with the PP who wrote that maturity is the biggest factor.

It has nothing to do with brightness and everything to do with maturity. You want to find a school that doesn't have a single answer but works with you to make the best decision for your child.

We are looking for nursery/early elementary programs for DS. He has a very late summer birthday but is also quite bright. I know some schools don't let kids like this enroll "on time." Can anyone recommend schools that might be more open to it? Or schools that seem really against it? We are trying to figure out what our options may be. Prefer MD or NW DC. Thanks!
