Teacher here -- cards from students are my favorite gifts by far.

We do $25 for the teacher and send in a card made by DS. If there is a class gift, we just send a card and then contribute to the class gift Then $15 for paraeducators/helpers that are closely involved in the grade, classroom or DS. I think the extra cards are not typical (it does add up) but we want to say thank you and we already have the amount budgeted from back when we gave larger gifts for daycare workers.

Teacher here...I know they would love that! If you appreciate what they do, by all means, show them! There will be many parents who do nothing for them (usually parents of the kids who give them the most challenges in class), so expressing your thanks with a nice gift will help make up for that and make the teacher's holidays brighter.

I want 2 give cash. When we were in daycare -the teachers appreciated cash. My kid's teacher emails us on weekends and evenings to address questions. Any prohibition on just giving cash-with qnice note? Yes someone can say tacky, but our teacher is fresh and probably makes next to thing. Heck I would give her 50 a month if The ethics rulesallowed just cause she works her tush off and I am grateful.

Individual parents can give gifts over $20. We called to check last year since we moved from private and didn't know whether there was a policy. We give $25 gift cards to the specials teachers and $50 to the primary teachers. The teachers work hard and don't make much money. They spend 6.5 hours a day with our kids. If money isn't an issue. I think its nice to give them something more.

There is a $20 limit for accepting a gift from a company or individual if you have any authority over expenditures, rents etc. This is a standard financial accounting conflict of interest type policy.

Last year DD's room parent did a class gift at Xmas and end of year. We each chipped in $10-15. Haven't heard anything for this year.

I'm a teacher and second this. But the best thing about this time of year are the notes. I treasure the notes I receive from parents about their children and the effect I am having on their lives.

Actually mcps' gift policy has changed this year. A parent may not give an individual gift of more than $20 at one time but may give a series of gifts not to exceed $100 during the school year. My kids' classes give a group gift, too. The treasurer or party planner usually puts it together.

I am a teacher and have never gotten a clas gift-though I have also only worked in lower income schools where there was not an active PTA or even room parents. Target and Amazon are great gift cards and $25 is very generous from one family in my opinion-someone who works in a school in Bethesda is liable to disagree with me, but I would love that!

I have a child in K this year. I've heard nothing from the room moms. I'm going to email them. Just checking here....are class gifts given to teachers for the holidays, or should I do an individual gift to the teacher? If I do a gift, I'm planning on doing a gift card such as Target. Where do you think teachers want to receive gift cards from? Is $25 to little an amount?
