3 years is not long enough and 50 times is a lot. Often admission and number of times is multiplied to estimate rule usage because people deliberately under report. There is a large private commercial sector in the dc area, I hate government work.

oh an my poly...i have no clue if i 'passed'. they testers didn't say much, my rejection letter from adjudication didn't say anything about it, and of course polygraph records are redacted/sealed so i have no clue what's in there from my 3 poly sessions.

i wonder if even a different IC-element that i might hopefully process with can access them or if it's only restricted to that particular element's security apparatus.

The details:

I was given a COE for an IC element (non-DoD) in summer 2010 and started my processing that fall. I was clean at the time but my last use of pot was about 7-8 months prior to my coe.

I mis-represented the frequency, time-span of my overall marijuana use, and the amount i've bought for mysef/on behalf of friends on my original sf86. Not by much: i fudged the dates a bit so i fell outside of '1-2 years prior to application) and instead of saying i had smoked about 40-50 times in my life over a 10 year period, i originally stated it was about 10.

Anyways, during my 2nd polygraph i 'came clean' and corrected that. a month after my 2nd poly i was called for a 3rd poly (weird, i dunno why since they had enough to ding me), so before my 3rd poly i sent in an amended sf86.

My 3rd poly had no questions on it regarding drug use....most of the questions were completely different from my first two poly's.

Anyways, my file was sent to the adjudicators (in spring 2011) after the 3rd poly and I was rejected my ts/sci due to original falsifying security forms, though the adjudicator acknowledge i corrected them at a later date.

The adjudication letter stated I was eligible to re-apply to the same element after a year had passed from my decision. I am assuming that if i am eligible to re-apply for said element, that I would once again be considered/be vetted for the required clearance if i received a COE.

I wouldn't say I"m embarrased over it...just extremely distraught that I did something stupid which probably would've been clearable if i had been fully truthful in the first place.

Anyways, fast forward to now..it's been months since i reapplied to the original ic-element that offered me the COE but I have not heard from them. Meanwhile another IC-element has picked me up for the initial interview stages. I am just curious if they'll give me a fair shot or will they hold my ts/sci rejection from 2 years ago against me.

I haven't been around pot or smoked it for over 3 years now....not that i used it much in my life in the first place...like 40/50 times over a decade from hs to some of grad school.

OP, its an anonymous forum. Its hard to help without a specific reason and I know a few current and former adjudicators/investigators I could ask on your behalf. What you consider embarrassing is probably pale in comparison to what they're used to dealing with. Also, the fact that this still concerns you means you might have a rough time clearing this time, particularly the poly.

Thanks. I've gone through a few of the DISCO cases that are posted but I don't think they are helpful because this position and rejection was not an element that came under DoD purview. They don't use DoD rules, adjudicators, polygraphers, etc.

no not failed poly. well, according to my adjudication it was not a failed poly. I don't want to get too detailed into it but suffice to say it was a boneheaded mistake on my part which I acknowledged during the process and my adjudication letter stated i was eligible to re-apply to said IC-element after a year had passed.

I am now in the beginning stages of the interview process with another part of the IC and I am just curious as to how they will treat this past security clearance denial.

Ideally I would love to get another offer/coe and process and join the original place that I got the offer from but I think that's not going to happen even though adjudication decisions say otherwise.

It depends. It is unlikely, but possible. For example, if the reason you did not clear is because of marijuana use that occurred five years prior to the initial BI, you may clear a subsequent BI that occurs five years later (ten years post-use.) OP- can you clarify? Was it a failed poly?

Any DCUMers experienced or know of anyone who had a security clearance rejected in the past (TS/SCI full-scope) with an IC element but was successful later in obtaining a similar clearance with another IC element?

Or once you are rejected for a clearance of that level you will never get into the IC again? Even if the adjudication states you are eligible for clearance in the future.
