I am a professional cook and have the All-Clad slow cooker for home use. It has the removable insert that allows you to sear on the stove or brown in the oven. I like it and use it a lot. I wouldn't use the cooker nearly as much if it didn't have that ability.

OP here... 16:47 have you been happy with the searing option? I'm a pretty die hard cook and admittedly a food snob, so have been hesitant to go the way of the slow cooker in the past because once I've seared on the stove top I figure why not either simmer or braise in the over. If you really can do it all with this device I'm willing to take the plunge.

Yes. Got the Williams Sonoma one as a gift, in large part for the ability to sear directly in the insert. Am definitely a fan of that option, though I admit to not using it as often as I mean to,

I just do the searing on the stove and then transfer to the crockpot. I wasn't aware there were slow cookers that can also sear.

Just saw the Cuisinart Multi-Cooker on sale and was thinking about finally taking the plunge. I love things like stews, braises, etc but have been reluctant to buy one because most i've seen don't have the insert to use over the cooktop-- those that do are CRAZY expensive.

Does anyone have a slow cooker that they also use to sear (either in the cooker itself or via the stovetop?)
