Wait until you get the CoGat results-if the composite score is 132 or higher, with the NNAT score of 140, that should be a great start. Then, meet with the AAP counselor at your school (they all have one) in the spring after files are submitted to check the GRBS score.

The thing is grades do not correlate to AAP. THe kids that need AAP the most are the smart kids with lower grades. It does happen.

Not all kids are screened automatically. But if test scores are not high enough, you can parent refer. Those grades and DArA don't sound like anything special, but that NNAT is very strong.

I think the report card is less important than the test scores and the GBRS. You can have a good GBRS without having a great report card. A child could display gifted behaviors but not necessarily do well in class for a variety of reasons.

DS is in grade 2, his report card is mostly 3s in all areas. Except in Math and science there are some 4s.
His DRA score was 24. (He reads at a higher level but that is was he scored at school)

I am wondering based on these facts, what chances does he have to go to an AAP school in third grade.
I heard that the report card has an important role in the selections. Do all kids automatically get screened for AAP qualification by the school, or the parents have to refer their kids only if they are interested?
Also his NNAT score was around 140 (98 percentile).
I am bit new to this process, I just wanted to get familiar and get input from other parents, and what to expect in the coming months.
