Nikon D3200 is incredible. I have 3 small children & it captures everything that I want it to.

They are practically the same camera. Once you get a dSLR, the lens you use makes more of a difference than the body, unless you are a pro. If you want really good shots, don't get the kit lens, but pay a few hundred bucks for more aperture in whatever lens you want. Kit lenses come with relatively limited aperture widths. Good luck!

My Cannon powershot is great at taking pictures of active children. I have the powershot sx30 IS. It has a zoom lens and more options than a basic point and shoot and it takes fantastic pictures. The zoom is great for shots like that one of last night's moon.

Oh, and I compared this with the Nikon equivalent and they received pretty equal reviews and their prices were both around $400. I got the Cannon because it went on sale. Again, this isn't the Rebel but it's a nicer Cannon point and shoot digital camera.

Those are both highly rated. I just got a Rebel T3 and love it.

I think they are very similar in image quality, so it really depends on how they feel to you. You might also consider if a family member or friend is into photography and whether they shoot Nikon or Canon. I am in a Nikon family and we do a lot of lens swapping.

I would also recommend getting just the body and buying a cheap prime lens which will allow you to shoot without the flash in more settings. For Nikon that's the 35 mm f/1.8 lens, which is $200.

As others have said, virtually any of the DSLRs will likely be fine. That being said, after researching them a few months ago, I went with the Nikon D5100 due to a few small features that I liked, so I would recommend that one as well.

Any DSLR will get rid of shutterlag and the differences between them are pretty small, but I like Nikon, and agree the D5100 would be a good choice.

Get the Nikon D5100.

I plan to buy a DSLR camera during Black Friday. Which is the better camera? The Canon Rebel T3 or Nikon D3000? What I'm looking for the most in the camera is the lack of shutter lag.
