I've had mixed experiences. I assumed that in the beginning they were just getting the kinks out. Guess they really just can't get the customer service part down. Pies are pretty good though.

buying all of the ingredients to make a pie costs more than $30

Same exact experience, but just on a random Friday in October (the pies were for my husbands birthday). They actually asked if I could wait in the store for an hour while they made it--in the middle of a workday. Also, they were totally rude and completely disorganized.

Try Buzz Bakery on Slaters Lane in Alexandria. It's on the edge of Old Town, just after the airport.

They are VERY friendly there and "get" customer service. If they don't have it, they will tell you.

I have been there and they have the WORST customer service. I went in July when NO ONE was in the store and they were so rude.

1. The pies are not very good
2. They list all these pie flavors on their site and none of them are actually in the store and available
3. They are overpriced and you can get a better pir at giant!

Dangeriously Delicious pies.

Pie is good and they aren't assholes.

I like the Happy Baker at the MoCo Women's Coop Farmers Market, but I agree that it's Thanksgiving and while they could/should have done better, you should also make allowances for how incredibly busy pie places get.

Wow! That would have been a huge bummer to find out late in the game that they didn't and wouldn't have your Thanksgiving pie. . Good for you for calling, OP, and thanks for the heads up!

Creative Cakes of Silver Spring has amazing pies. They are available at Chevy Chase Supermarket.

Pie gourmet in Vienna. Better pies, better prices, better service.

Thanks pp's -- glad to know it's not just me that thinks this is weird. I guess I won't be giving them my business since I wasn't lucky enough to get a confirmation email. Too bad, since their pies looked pretty exciting.

I would bring this up with them after Thanksgiving. They were really slammed by business, however I do agree with you, there should be some warning.

They could probably build this into their website ordering system, but they need to commit to do so.

I agree with you that is bizarre, but why give them your business then?!

I found this totally bizarre. Am I way off?

I saw Pie Sisters while driving in G-town, looked it up online when I got home, and decided to go ahead and place an order. The website says that you must place your order >24 hours in advance. I didn't get any sort of email confirmation, so I decided to call them the next day just to make sure they got the order, and the person who picked up says something like this: "We're really busy, so you'll probably get an email from us tonight. But if you don't, then you didn't get off the waitlist." So I said, can you check and see if you got my order, and that I'm actually on the waitlist?" (of course I am baffled that there is a wait list for a place with a $30+ pie...but it's DC, so I accepted that and moved on, because I obviously was willing to pay it, so why not everyone else) She says "no, there's someone else assigned to that job, so I can't."

So had I assumed like your average capitalist that when I place my order for my $30+ pie, I'm going to get to actually take it home with me, I would have made a trip all the way to G-town for nothing. Shouldn't there be something on their site warning that if you don't get an order confirmation, that you're not getting your order? I feel like this is some sort of bizarro world...
