We use plain yogurt in pretty much every dish that requires mayo (mayo kind of grosses me out in large quantities). I've never had a flop using full-fat or low-fat yogurt, but I'd probably stay away from fat free. It adds a bit of a tang, but I like that.

Look somewhere like allrecipes.com for crab dips and see what you can find. (You can exclude those with mayonaise if you search by ingredient.)

I dont mind mayo but in dips I cannot stand when its full of mayo. I make an artichoke dip that calls for a full cup and I use about half. I dont think its too dry or anything.

Maybe cut down the mayo OP? I dont know how well sour cream would work as a substitue for mayo in a crab dip especially since the tang flavor comes from the cream cheese.

It depends. Why are you looking to substitute? To make it healthier?

The recipe already calls for cream cheese with the mayonnaise. I just don't like the taste of mayo and thought I'd try something new.

Sounds good! What is the ratio? Are we talking half cream cheese half mayo? Is there Parmesan or any other cheese in the dip? I'm thinking full fat sour cream is going to be the best substitute without altering flavor and keeping it thick and creamy. You might have to fiddle with the other proportions to keep it the right consistency.

OP here, it's 1 cup of cream cheese & 2 cups of mayo. There's going to be some light shredded cheese on top to mkae it look pretty, but that's it about the cheeses.

Why are you substituting? Allergy? Health? Just don't have it in the house?

I'm making a crab dip and it requires mayonnaise, what can I substitute that with and still taste good?
