The Big Ten is a well known brand.

PSU joined in 94 I believe, so they've had 11 teams for nearly 20 years under the Big Ten name.

Doubt that the name will change now.

Sports Illustrated is reporting that the addition of the Balt/DC and NYC markets to the upcoming (2017) tv negotiations could be worth somewhere in the neighborhood of $200M MORE to the conference. The ACC is locked into its tv contract until about 2027.

First of all, in the midwest, we don't play lacrosse. That's the sport with the stick, right??

Second, we've had more than 10 schools for a long, long time. Get with the program OP.

Third, we are all pretty pissed off about this. MD???? Rutgers? Seriously?!?!?

UVA considering joining the Big T14n? I haven't seen any serious reports of that.

UVA's a better fit for non-revenue sports and definitely for research $$$/overall prestige. It's just that, well, they suck in football. (Well, that didn't stop the Big T14n from grabbing Murland.)

Remember folks, Virginia Tech had to twist several arms down in Richmond to join the ACC a few years ago.

If they bolted w/o bringing UVA along there'd be a LOT of people pissed off. Likewise, if UVA bolted and left Virginia Tech behind, there'd be a lot of other people pissed off.

The Cavs (of which I am a fan) are stuck with the Hokies.

I'm not sure how tied together UVA and Virginia Tech are.

If Maryland's athletic department is so in debt and Mr. Under Armour is willing to pay the exit fee ... why couldn't he have helped the UMD athletic department get out of debt and keep them in the ACC?

How much of that $8 million extra a year is canceled out jetting the men's soccer and women's field hockey teams to Minnesota and Nebraska? How much will non-Plank alumni be pissed off and reduce donations?

Also we start having the Big T14n sniffing around VA, NJ, and MD for recruits ...

Let's see if Maryland can get out of that $50 million exit fee. If they do, UVA may have to head somewhere -- I suspect the Big T14n doesn't really want Virginia Tech and the Big Tw10lve doesn't really want UVA.

Bigger TV market means $$$$$$ for all involved.

All the alum that are aginast this have been absent and do not give to the school. They had no choice and the hell with the traditions of the ACC it is and will always be a second tier conference in football. They are tops in mens and womens soccer, non revenue, lacrosse-non revenue, women's basketball non revenue,

And don't forget Rutgers is about to announce they're in, too.

There are now 13 schools in the Big 10. My dad made me memorize them all as a child.

Illinois, Indiana, Purdue
Wisconsin, Nebraska
Maryland
Michigan, Michigan State
Iowa, Minnesota
Northwestern, Ohio State
Penn State

Big 14 and growing adding 2 more teams in the future total 16

Actually it's already the Big Twelve since Penn State and now Nebraska are part of the conference.

Maryland would only be the latest acquisition.

Does anyone else find this whole deal a little strange?
