I work in a Title 1 school and would have to send 25 of these home per day if this was the "rule."

Sounds like the school has a good system in place without penalizing kids who forget homework (although maybe it esclates if it happens repeatedly?). Anyway I really don't understnd what the issue is.

Seems fine to me. It's just a note. Like our getting a warning when speeding instead of a ticket. We make mistakes in life, intended or not, and there are consequences.

It seems like a perfect approach to dealing with forgotten homework. Forgetting homework is not OK, and this will reinforce that lesson. Where's the problem?

You cater to the school's whims and rules, not the other way around.

this is one reason i appreciate being in a small private school....i have many doubts about it but i can see getting crazy about getting a note like that, but can also see how it's a policy that makes sense in a school system.

I totally agree. I actually thought that the original post was a joke. Does the OP seriously believe that the rules don't apply to her child? Who cares if your son is a straight A student and well-behaved? He forgot his homework. Obviously, the rule in the class is that when a child forgets homework, he writes a note home.

I'm sure the teacher appreciates you "cutting her some slack".

It's policy at our school. Regardless of who you are, how good your grades are, how often you forget your homework, you are required to fill out the green form and get your parent's signature if you don't turn in your homework. Personally, I'm glad that the school makes this effort to teach my child how important it is to fulfill his responsibilities and I'm glad they take the time to notify me that something wasn't done before it becomes a significant problem.

Um...he forgot his homework. Teacher sent home a note. Isn't that what is supposed to happen? Making the kids write the note is a great idea! Or do the rules not apply to your kids?

Maybe he'll remember his homework next time. Does his IEP have anything about turning in homework? Does he have a "doesn't have to turn in homework" accommodation? Maybe you should look at his math teacher as someone with high expectations, rather than someone who is picking on your son.

Is there any other consequence for the blue form? Seems like the purpose was to make sure he knows this is not acceptable, and to let you know that it happened.

Would you be complaining if you weren't notified about missing homework, too? Some teachers can't win with parents like you. The teacher is organized and has a system. What's the big deal? It's not like he had to miss recess or a fun activity.

I have a 5th Grade child attending MCPS elementary school. He is well behaved; a straight "A" student, and is OCD about completing his homework assignments (the first thing he does when he gets home from school). Yesterday, he forgot his math homework for the first time. He actually completed but forgot to put in his book-bag. His math teacher made him complete a "blue form" in which he had to acknowledge forgetting his homework assignment; accept responsibility for it; indicate that he would not do it again; and it was signed by him, the teacher, and there was a space for the parent signature. P.S. My kid has ADD and is under an IEP. This is a new-ish teacher so we decided to cut her a break and just sign the note but I really think some teachers should have to spend time in challenging or difficult schools before they are sent into cushy ones so that they have an appreciation for the student population they have.....
