For a sink I would just take apart the drain pipe underneath and see what you find.

Try baking soda and vinegar for a hair-clogged drain.

I've never been able to get a snake to remotely work--I'm no neophyte, either --I've replaced gaskets in the taps and changed the flushing assembly.

Buy a snake that you can attach to a drill. I had a similar problem and the manual snake just couldn't do it.... however the drill was fine. I didn't try to pull it back up, I pushed it through until it got to bigger line. Has worked perfectly since and now I own a good snake for future slow/clogged drains.

Wait till you have a few plumbing issues and have the plumber remove toy then...

We had the same problem in our old house. We finally had a plumber out for another problem and they snaked it and pulled out clumps of hair. It was much better after that. The snaking doesn't cost much or take much time, but you're going to have the minimum service charge. Obnoxiously our plumber charged an extra fee for using the snake which I realized after the fact.

Our bathtub has been draining slowly, and I'm pretty sure a piece broke off one of DS's toy boats and went down there. We've tried to reach it but can't. Any idea how much it will take for a plumber to fix this?
