If you have the "valet key" in the glove box, it can be a problem. Friend in LA went out to dinner w/ spouse, handed over the regular car keys, forgetting about the valet key in the glove box. Drove home after dinner. The next morning their car was gone, found a couple days later STRIPPED bare (seats, too!) and the car sprayed down w/ WD-40 (so they can't lift prints). The registration (with their address) still in the glove box. The valet key was in the ignition.

The other thing to be careful of is garage remotes. Most people don't lock the interior door to the house when they enter through their garage.

I never give all my keys to the valet. In fact, there are special key chains called "valet key chains" for that reason! But then again, maybe I'm just a little paranoid, like 21:20's husband!

I guess you don't watch Criminal Minds right? They are based in real stories.... In the criminal mind episode, the valet found out where the owner/driver lived by looking at the GPS "home."

Talking about that just remind me... someone here, married to a law enforcement agent, once said one of the things her husband does/did is store their home address under some meaningless name like "doctor or manicure" etc...

My DH always gets mad at me for doing this. I think he's afraid that someone at the valet is actually going to the time and trouble to look up our house address (from where? the car registration in the glove compartment?), copy a key and then break into the house. Seems a bit far-fetched but I suppose it could happen.

I wouldn't worry since you are so far from home.

Well, I always yell at my husband for this. I would go back and exchange it. Sorry.

If you do not need the keys, who cares. What do you think will happen? Nothing...

I was in a rush to check-in and get to a professional conference, so I gave my entire key ring to the valet. But I'm at a hotel 4 hours from home, so nothing to worry about, right? Or should I request that someone retrieve the keys?
