I thought it was a very funny review. I think Ezra Klein tweeted the line about the marshmallow.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't recognize well-written literature if it smacked you in the jaw.

It was brilliant, full-stop. And exceedingly well-written.

Give yourself another pat on the back, Mr. Wells.

Tiresome was a perfect description of the read.

NP here. Well-written? Brilliant!? Are you kidding?

Read some of Jay Rayner's reviews in the Observer and then get back to us.

I found the review about as annoying as I find Mr. Fieri, which may have been the point but made for tiresome reading.

I did enjoy this, though:
Why did the toasted marshmallow taste like fish?

I think "brilliant" is over-stating it a bit (as is the suggestion it bears a relationship to great literature). I think it's more noteworthy for the unrestrained criticism than the writing style, but it's a fun read.

Jesus. Guy's gonna need a gallon of aloe to treat that burn.

The only thing that made it hard to read was the inclusion of all the ridiculous made up "ingredients" and menu terms coined by Guy.

If you choose to eat at a place that slathers its food in "donkey sauce," you pretty much deserve what you get. (And that review was hilarious!)
