Well, today is day 7 and no email or call from them yet. This was the final round and other people who interviewed with him didnt hear back yet either. Is this a good or bad sign? As an COO, I can tell you that it just depends. Many times, it takes a little while to get all of the people together to make the final decision.

OP -$15K will not get you far, after taxes you're looking at $10K. we just went through this same scenario so I know it well.

We have done a few relocations, all of them 100% paid by the new employer - including paid housing for 3 months.

this last relocation was different. due to the economy we were lucky to get anything. Basically the company gave us $20k ($14K after taxes) to move from the west coast to here. 2 kids, we were in a rental so nothing to sell.

We had to break our lease ($) good bye $4500 sec dep
We had to ship our cars - $2K
We had to move our furniture - $10K (3 bedrooms, kitchen, dining room and family room) and we packed and unpacked ourselves

Congrats and Good luck, this is an exciting time for you but don't be disappointed when you see that relo money dries up fast and be prepared to pay out of pocket for a lot of stuff.

Thanks a lot! We're renting so I guess we will have lots of options. Our kids are in pre-school so we'll have to think about this.

They're offering to pay individually for some aspects of our move or a flat 15K to cover the expenses. I'm feeling tempted to just leave everything behind and start fresh. I'm so excited!

DH woke up a different guy. He's been working so hard in his job search I'm so glad it finally paid of. I'm thinking of a way to celebrate. Maybe I'll take him out for dinner

I am envious. I love Seattle. DH was on a project there for a few months years ago. Ironically, I was there in summer with him when they had a long stretch of beautiful sunny weather, crisp clean air...everyone made a point to tell me it was not the norm.

I love the NW of the US. Seattle's downtown is really cool.

YAY, OP! I've heard the weather in Seattle is exactly as the stereotype says. It does rain more there. On the bright side, I don't think it ever really gets that cold. Seattle is one of few cities I would even consider relocating to from the East Coast, as it has a similarly smart/educated population. (warning, though - one republican friend finds it excessively liberal and feels a little out of place politically.) Also, prepare to pay a lot for a house in certain communities, particularly those with water view/access.

I don't see any reason not to just send a *short* email reiterating his interest and offering to answer any further questions they may have.

I would guess he's on the short list, but isn't their #1 candidate. They may have extended an offer to their first choice, who may still be deciding. (or something has come up that's temporarily halted their decision or hiring process.) If this is the case, the #1 choice may turn them down and your husband might then be the new #1.

If he has other offers he can contact them, if he uses that as the reason and is prepared for them to basically say - 'take the other offier.' If no one else has heard though, it's probably a HR snafu - he could be getting it, or not, but either way it's probably not official.

I mean wait to hear from them before contacting someone. He's interviewed with several other places and got other offers but this is the best overall. He doesn't want to commit before hearing from these guys if he's getting an offer or not.

They're known for emailing people with offers/regrets in 24 hours. We're anxious.

What do you mean by "wait"? I would not lose all hope yet but I would certainly keep looking in the meantime.
