I would put a big tufted round ottoman in front of the sofa and then two chairs under the tv, so that the chairs can be moved to the side slightly to view the tv if you ever need the extra seating for a game watch party or the like.
I love that idea, thanks! NP here and we also have an open floor plan, but just one big living room, no family room or dining area. I think having a table behind the sofa, which faces the TV would allow to create additional sitting area behind the sofa or a dining area. we were actually looking for a sort of a round sofa that we would be put in the middle of the room and would sort of face both ways because we wanted to create a TV watching area, but also have the gathering area that is not centered around the TV. Our room is big and we wanted the TV watching sofa to be closer to TV, which would put in in the middle of the room.
